Kevin So is the real deal. New York DJ John Platt calls him "the new hardest working man in show business." WBAI-FM recently named his band "THE breakout band of the year." 11 CDs released independently in the past 10 years. Sold over 15,000 albums across the US and around the world. His song "Talk" was recorded by Grammy award winning artist Keb' Mo'. He shoots hoops and swaps songs with rising star Amos Lee (Blue Note/EMI). He's been called a pioneer for Asian American artists in the 21st century. He's performed on the main stage of some of the world's most prestigious music festivals - Kerrville, High Sierra, Clearwater, Falcon Ridge, and the Woody Guthrie Folk Festival.
His latest creation - A BRIGHTER DAY - is one of the most talked about albums of 2007. His first studio effort since his double CD masterpiece LEAVING THE LIGHTS ON (2003) and follow up to his highly acclaimed "live in concert" THE SO MUST GO ON (2005) - this is easily Kevin So's greatest work and most polished collection of songs to date. From the opening lines "All of my life I always knew what I was gonna do/Whether or not my childhood dreams were ever coming true" ("New York City") to the jaw dropping uninterrupted serving of "Love Suite #239" - timing at almost 13 minutes - to the final Lionel Richie-inspired "Come Sunday Morning" ("I'm surviving like the glow of a neon light") - Kevin So has done it again. Another masterpiece. This time - of epic proportions. Place it alongside Springsteen's Born To Run and Stevie Wonder's Innervisions.
And yet there is one obvious difference. There is only one Kevin So.
Still only in his 30s, he's accomplished what most may never see in a lifetime. A Broadway musical based on his life story is currently in production and will debut at this year's 2007 New York International Fringe Festival. An accomplished vocalist, keyboardist, and equally gifted guitar player - he's appeared on countless albums, crossing genres effortlessly from country to hip-hop. "R&B, jazz, folk - this guy can do it all" is what everyone has been saying for years. Never one to be pigeonholed, it's only a matter of time before he is recognized as not only the next Stevie Wonder, or the Bob Dylan of his generation, but rather simply put: Kevin So - the real deal.
