personal message

***Just a warning: All of a sudden I got 45 notes.  So...yeah.  To all those who messaged me a long time ago, sorry!  AA's fault, not mine.***

*I don't play games.  I say what I mean.  I mean what I say.*

*I don't respond to those that do not have pictures as I feel that it is unfair for you to see what I look like when I can't see what you look like.*

*I do not have Yahoo Messenger.*

I'm a pretty tough woman.  I'm not the type to settle for less because I know what I deserve.  With that said, I'm driven and a bit fiesty.  Although I'm a tough girl, I'm also a softy.  But getting to my soft side takes a while :) I'm in the progress of getting my Sports Nutrition degree, and I'm loving it!   I'm a pretty laid back kind of girl.  I'm goofy like Will Smith when he was in Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.  I'd prefer playing a sport or a board game rather than clubbing on most days as I feel that clubbing gets old pretty fast.  If I'm going to dance, I'm going to a jazz or hip hop dance workshop.  And yeah, I randomly dance alone in my room or in front of close friends that know I'm random and goofy.  Not a high maintenance type of woman.  I'm confident in many of the different aspects of my life, however, I do have a few insecurities.  Nonetheless, I'm comfortable with who I am and what I look like for the most part.  I'm pretty honest and open.  I work out 5-6X a week.  I love cooking and baking (I'm constantly watching the Food Network).  I golf and play volleyball and basketball.  I like kicking back with friends and havin a few beers.  I'm pretty goofy once you get to know me.  If you want to know more, just IM me :)

I LOVE KYLE HANAGAMI:

If you can hip wind like this boy, I'm yours :) -

Hey Jen,

Glad to hear that you're settling in just fine. Sorry to hear about your rotten roomie though. Is she just being anti-social/stand-offish because she doesn't know anybody, or is really just plain rude? Whatever the case, I hope that smoothes out for you.

As for my past experiences (with the bike, among other things), I know I can't completely blame my parents. I have to love and respect them (not only because it's "Asian" familial obligation/the right thing to do, but, because they do work their asses off and have endured a lot to get me where I am today). For that, I truly am grateful (despite, all the pent up resentment/hatred). Plus, through all the "tough love" (I'm not even sure if you can even call it that), it has made me a stronger person, as cliche as they may all sound.

I really do believe that all the conflicts and misunderstandings do stem from the cultural barriers that you mention; ergo, part of the reason why I started my blog (and hope to turn it into a Directed Study for school)- the Asian-American Identity and Anxieties. I love and respect my parents, but, at the same time, can't help, but, to think "Oh I wish they would've let me done/taught me this.."/"Oh, I wish they loved me like the conventional "American" family/"Why do they do this and don't do that...". With all the words that have been said that shouldn't have ever been spoken, and all the words that should've been said, but, were never spoken, I just have accumulated a lot of hurt; a lot of anger over the years. I guess my blog is my personal way to share that with anybody else out that can relate.

Anyways, I hear what you're staying...and maybe, just envy you for having a better relationship with your parents (or being a stronger, better person- I don't know:P). Thanks for your two cents though. Good luck w/ the roomie situation. Take care, Jen.

P.S. - Damn, I'm tearing up your wall here on AA. Sorry about that.

-Rich

Hey Jen,

No problemo, at all. Moving is always a chore. I like to be organized, but, I'm not really a fan of moving :P. I hope you're settling in alright whereever you may be.

As for your "to do" list, ha, ha, don't feel bad at all. In fact, believe it or not, I don't know how to ride a bike either. I didn't have much of a childhood/had kind of a sad childhood. When I was a young'un (4 or 5), I had a bike (on training wheels), but, then my parents took it away from me before I actually started to learn. After deciding for me, they felt as though, having a bike would be useless to me, so, they took it away and sold it...so, in the end, I never actually learned how to ride a bike.

...and if it makes you feel any better, I don't know how to/ never learned how to swim either. Yeah, I know...now, I sound like a total loser. Now, that I think about it, I kinda feel like I missed out on a lot in my life :(. I would actually like to learn how to swim sometime, though.

Anyways, I'll stop there before I sound like a complete dork :P. I hope all is well on your end. Take care.

Hey again. Ha, ha, yeah, I can see how clubbing can probably get redundant and lame :P. In terms of dancing, I'm more of a freestyler, myself (i.e. the reason why I'm not too much into the choreo deal). I actually entered a freestyle hip-hop dance-off competition at an old school of mine (before I transferred out). Funny thing is I actually won too :P (probably only because a. there were only five other competitors (really three other competitors because they decided to split the competition into guys and girls last second- other wise, this one girl- she was awesome, would've annihilated me. Now, that I think of it, though, ha ha there were only really two other solid (guy) competitors because one guy was completely drunk.), b. I was an Asian dancing at a conversative, Catholic, predominantly White university (so, it's just something they haven't been exposed to before :P. Seriously, I was probably one of maybe four Asians out of the entire University) & c. I took my shirt off (not to say I have much going on in the physical department- just again, something they were ever exposed to before :P).

As for joining a hip-hop workshop, it does sound fun. I always try to keep an open mind, and from what you said, it sounds like a blast. I should try and find one somewhere. As for breaking, yeah, I just wish I personally knew somebody that could breakdance, like a mentor or something.

As for doing something "just because everybody else has", I know what you mean. I don't fall into peer pressure, I just really meant, I wanted to go clubbing to see what all the hype/the scene is all about. It's just one of those things on my "To Do" list (like skydiving). Ha, ha, I would never become a heroin addict or anything like that :P. Anyways, hope all is well on your end. Take care.

Hey...

I'm not sure if you remember me, but, we chatted a bit on the AA chat the other night. Anyways, just wanted to say thanks for the add. I appreciate it. Feel free to drop me a line anytime. Take care.

P.S. - You mentioned in your "personal message" that you would rather play a sport or board game than go clubbing. Ha, ha, the funny thing is I love to dance (just for the sake of dancing, not professionally or anything), and have been trying to hit up a club for the longest time. I mean, I don't expect anything great (probably just a bunch of sloppy drunks "dancing" around), but, I feel like I should experience THAT scene at least once in my life. I feel kinda lame that I haven't gone clubbing and I'm 24. It just seems like every time I try to go/want to go, I can't. Either plans change or nobody else wants to go :P. I also always wanted to get into "breaking" (breakdancing), but, don't really know where to start.

P.P.S. - I'm digging your boy's moves there in that 2nd video for "Can You Handle It". I saw this the other day too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v =VUlpOCajDAI . Talking about that same song (which also happens to be on my profile) you may or may not have already seen this vid too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U9rHXrYkRak#t=18s . I've never really been one for dancing to choreo, but, now I'm thinking a hip-hop dance class would be kinda fun.
