I hate Qiagen kits

Posted June 13th, 2007 at 10:52pm

I really can't stand Qiagen miniprep and maxiprep kits. They're for isolating DNA from cultures of bacteria cells, so you can end up with a tube full of clean, pure copies of a plasmid.

And these kits are designed to be foolproof. It's really about just adding a solution, shaking, adding another solution, shaking, adding another solution, spinning it in a centrifuge and voila, you're supposed to have a high concentration tube of plasmid. It's supposed to be foolproof.

So what does it say about me -- I can't get the damn things to work!

Argh.

Tomorrow is my third stab at the Miniprep kit. And I swear I've done it successfully before. I'm not an idiot!!

Ah, well, maybe the third time's the charm?

Barack Obama: Walk for Change

Posted June 09th, 2007 at 02:43pm

This morning, I'm participating in the Barack Obama Walk for Change in Tucson! I got a spiffy t-shirt from the campaign. Love the quote on the back:

"In the face of impossible odds, people who love their country can change it" -- Barack Obama
